倫敦2023年11月17日 /美通社/ -- 今晚（11 月 16 日星期四），John Vaillant 創(chuàng)作的《Fire Weather: A True Story from a Hotter World》贏得 2023 年度 Baillie Gifford 非虛構(gòu)類寫(xiě)作獎(jiǎng)。得獎(jiǎng)書(shū)籍在科學(xué)博物館舉辦的頒獎(jiǎng)典禮上正式宣布，且得到了 Blavatnik 家族基金會(huì)的慷慨贊助。
《Fire Weather: A True Story from a Hotter World》講述了 2016 年肆虐加拿大阿爾伯塔省 Fort McMurray 的破壞性山火事件。書(shū)中，John Valliant 深入探討了石油工業(yè)與氣候科學(xué)之間的相互關(guān)系，同時(shí)講述了現(xiàn)代山火所帶來(lái)的巨大破壞及其對(duì)受災(zāi)群眾生活造成的負(fù)面影響。
Baillie Gifford 獎(jiǎng)旨在表彰和激勵(lì)最卓越的非虛構(gòu)類作品，作者國(guó)籍不限。獲獎(jiǎng)?wù)?Vaillant 將獲得 5,0000 英鎊。其他入圍作者每人將獲得 5,000 英鎊，總獎(jiǎng)金共計(jì) 75,000 英鎊。
《Fire Weather: A True Story from a Hotter World》由今年的評(píng)審團(tuán)選定：Frederick Studemann（主席）；Andrea Wulf、Arifa Akbar、Ruth Scurr、Tanjil Rashid 和 Andrew Haldane。評(píng)審團(tuán)從 6 本入圍書(shū)籍中選出這部作品。這些入圍書(shū)籍從 265 部提交的作品中篩選而出，所有書(shū)籍均于 2022 年 11 月 1 日至 2023 年 10 月 31 日期間出版。
